Common Questions

What is therapy?

Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counselling is the process of meeting with a registered therapist who can help you shift unhelpful thoughts, behaviours, beliefs and physical responses.

In our work together we will establish goals, develop an understanding about your journey and current experiences, identify symptoms and ways to cope.

Through therapy you can heal past trauma and hurt, deepen self-understanding and insight, resolve painful feelings and improve relationships.

Therapy is based on establishing an honest, open and trusting relationship between the therapist and client.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy is the same as in-person therapy, except that we meet online.

I use a telehealth platform called Jane, which allows us to meet “face-to-face” via video call. Through Jane, you can easily schedule & manage your appointments, receive appointment reminders, make payments and access your receipts – all in one place! My goal is to make accessing therapy as convenient as possible.

To book your first session, just click the button above. Once your account is set up, you can easily book your appointments and enter (and pay for) your video sessions.

You don’t need to download anything. All you need is an up-to-date browser (Chrome works well) and a good internet connection. A laptop or computer works best, however a smartphone or tablet will work too!

I also offer appointments over the phone or in person on request.

Where do you offer in person therapy?

In person therapy is held at my office in Wainfleet, Ontario. Please contact me to request an in person appointment.

How long are sessions? How often should we meet?
Sessions are usually 50 minutes long. Frequency of appointments will depend on your schedule and your needs. Weekly sessions will help to develop a strong therapeutic relationship and progress toward your goals. You may decide to reduce frequency of sessions as you make progress and become more confident applying the tools you learn in therapy.
How long do I have to be in therapy for?
This really depends on what challenges you would like support with. Some clients will come for just a few sessions, whereas others are looking for longer term support. Throughout our work together we will establish goals, review your progress toward them and decide when you have met your goals.
What can I expect at my first appointment?

The initial appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for you to decide if I am a good fit for you. I will work with you to develop an understanding about why you are seeking support at this time, your history and background, what supports and resources you have in place and what you want to be different. I will work with you to identify your goals for therapy and discuss if we would like to meet again and if so, when and how often.

How does billing, payment and insurance work?

The investment is $180 for each 60 minute session. 60 minute sessions are comprised of 50 minutes direct work and 10 minutes for case notes, administration and treatment planning. 90 minute sessions are also available on request and are $325.

After each session, I will take payment directly via credit card and can also accept e-transfer payments. Receipts are provided and can be claimed as a medical expense on your income taxes.

Many extended health benefit plans cover counselling from Registered Social Workers. Please check with your provider to understand your coverage and any requirements before booking. An invoice will be issued to you with my registration number which you can submit for reimbursement where available.

Direct billing is available for Canada Life, Blue Cross, Desjardins, Green Shield and RWAM.
What is your Cancellation Policy?

In order to meet the needs of my clients and the demand for appointments, I require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule appointments. If you do not attend your scheduled therapy appointment and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, your credit card will automatically be charged for the full cost of the session.

I understand that emergencies happen. Please contact me as soon as possible if you need to change your scheduled appointment or log into your Jane account to cancel or reschedule prior to the 24 hour cancellation window.

How do I book an appointment?

To book your first session, just click the “Book a Session” button above. Once your account is set up, you can easily book your appointments and enter (and pay for) your sessions.

You don’t need to download anything. Once your appointment is booked, you will receive an email with a link to your video call or confirmation of your phone or in person appointment.
